Sudzy Salmon, located in Eagle River Alaska, is not your average car wash! Not only are we a Turtle product wash, helping to keep your cars clean safely, but we also offer a dog wash to keep your pets looking (and smelling!) their best!
Sudzy Salmon has two stainless steel Evolution Dog Wash stations on site, open daily without appointment during business hours (Monday – Saturday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM & Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM). You simply get your dog in the tub, close the gate, and use our shampoo options to get your pup dirt-free! We currently offer flea and tick shampoo and while it is widely thought that Alaska does not have fleas and ticks, it seems times may be a-changing!
According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Alaskans need to be on the lookout for ticks this summer, even though the tiny bugs are not so well known in Alaska! Many ticks showing up in Juneau, Sitka, Anchorage and other Alaska communities are actually non-native, potentially disease carrying ticks, that are being identified for the very first time here— regardless if your dog has ever left the state! Two identified non-native ticks were found on dogs that had never left their hometowns of Juneau and Sitka.
It is a common practice, to inspect livestock for ticks when they arrive in Alaska, but many vets don’t think to look for ticks on dogs as it’s long been the mindset that Alaska doesn’t have them. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game also stated that our current climate can support the life cycle of many types of ticks, once they arrive, so the only thing we can do is be hyper-aware and inspect for them! It’s up to you as the pet owner to inspect for ticks or be sure to take precautionary measures with a flea and tick shampoo or other treatment.
So we want to hear from you! Should Sudzy Salmon offer a Tick Shampoo in the Dog Wash? Is this a concern for you? Let us know in the comments below!
